Low free silica, low dusting blasting media
Meet our newest Best in Breed abrasive! BLACK BEAUTY® Platinum abrasive is a high quality calcium iron silicate media with enhanced cutting performance relative to traditional abrasive media. It’s an environmentally friendly media for the industrial, marine, oil, and gas industries for removing surface coatings such as rust, paint and scale from a variety of substrates, especially structural steel and concrete. Available in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, it has a lower consumption rate than traditional coal, copper and glass slags.
BLACK BEAUTY® Platinum’s up-cycled production is tightly controlled by Harsco Environmental. This means it’s vertically integrated and controlled from raw material to finished product. With this level of control throughout the manufacturing process you get a reliable and consistent media for your surface preparations needs. - “High free silica” products have been found to increase the risk of silicosis. BLACK BEAUTY® Platinum is classified as a “low free silica” abrasive and can be used when “low free silica” abrasives are specified.

MEDIUM: 3.5 - 5.0 (MIL)
Use Medium for general purpose repair and maintenance blasting including removal of paint, rust, mill scale, and other coatings from surfaces.
Minimum Nozzle Size: 1/4"
FINE: 3 - 4.5 (MIL)
Use Fine for new construction, light paint and rust removal, and for special maintenance applications requiring reduced profiles.
Minimum Nozzle Size: 3/16"
ULTRA FINE: 2.25 - 3.5 (MIL)
Use Ultra Fine for light blasting requiring a clean surface and minimum anchor profile including brush-off blast or high-pressure water blast systems.
Minimum Nozzle Size: 1/8"
The BLACK BEAUTY® Platinum abrasive “Minimum Nozzle Size” shows profile ranges achieved with different grades of BLACK BEAUTY® Platinum abrasives in a controlled environment using a blast cabinet designed by Harsco’s technical team. The controlled environment consisted of 90-100 psi at the nozzle, nozzle to surface distance of 18”, a ¼” orifice venturi nozzle, on new 1/8” grade A36 steel, with a blast angle of 75 degrees to 105 degrees.
Some variance can be noted in the nozzle size ranges even in a controlled environment. Harsco cannot guarantee identical profile results with BLACK BEAUTY® abrasives in the field where variability exists.
